Features to look for when buying RV steps
When looking to buy your first set of RV steps, you’re probably just looking for a set of steps that work. And I’m totally with you on that one. However, there are a few things you might want to consider:
Portable vs attached
Portable RV steps are simply placed in front of the RV’s threshold and can easily be moved if not used. Attached RV steps are physically attached to the RV itself, making them semi- or fully permanent fixtures. The installation for such steps can be a pain, especially if there’s an electrical component involved. However, attached RV steps are much more stable but usually a tad more expensive.
Metal vs plastic
High-quality RV steps are often made from stainless steel, which can provide a higher weight limit and added stability and durability. Plastic steps won’t last as long, but they are cheaper, lighter, and easier to maneuver.
Height and width
Before you start shopping for a set of RV steps, it is vital that you measure the width of your RV’s exit door and the height between the bottom lip of the threshold and the ground. Many RV steps have adjustable heights but do not have adjustable widths.
You can easily pay $100-200 for a set of steps, particularly if they are attachable and feature an electric component. If you are in need of a cheap and quick solution, many portable steps and platforms are available for under $100.
